Covington School Board selects firm for master facilities plan

January 30, 2024

The Covington Independent Public Schools Board of Education voted to enter into a contract with SHP, an architectural and design firm with offices in Bellevue and Cincinnati, for a master facilities plan at last week’s meeting.

The contract will enable SHP and the district to jointly develop “a master plan for determining how to use and/or modify its current facilities and space to accommodate potential changes in enrollment, expansion of student services, general growth, and maintenance of the same,” according to district documents. “This may include renovations and modifications to existing space and facilities or the erection of new facilities as determined by the final approved master facility plan option.”

Considerations of such a plan have occupied board discussions over the past year and began after a proposed consolidation of the district’s elementary schools early in 2023. The board chose to postpone its decision on consolidation so that it could better assess the condition of district facilities. The planning process will include a period of stakeholder and community input.
